Enable Your Tires to Last Longer

At D H Tire, Inc, we want each of our customers throughout the Houston, Conroe, and Katy areas to remain at the top when it comes to tire performance. Follow the maintenance schedules that are outlined in your owner's manual, and we can show you what you'll need to know to prolong the life of your tires.

Your vehicle's performance depends greatly on the tires, and maintaining your tires can protect your investment. Simple things like checking your tire's pressure, balancing the tires, rotating them, and choosing the right set of replacements (with safety and handling kept in mind) will contribute to consistent performance and safety.

Follow These Tips to Keep Your Tires in Working Order

  • Checking the tire pressure will ensure that it's inflated properly. If the tires are not inflated enough, this can lead to excess heat, uneven tire wear, and a decrease in braking and handling of your vehicle. This, of course, may cause structural failures such as blowouts along with tread separation. When the tires are properly inflated, this will help to maximize the tread life, improve handling, and be better for fuel-efficiency. This is also better for overall driver safety.
  • Follow your tire rotation schedules outlined in your manual. It should include the recommended rotation patterns that will best suit your vehicle, and routine tire rotations will not only enhance front-to-rear and side-to-rear wear, it will also equalize the wear on all four tires. Please note that tire rotations alone will not prevent wear issues caused by mechanical components that are worn out.
  • Balance your tires as often as needed. If your tires are out of balance, you'll notice it when you go over bumps at higher speeds. During the initial installation and a remount, balancing tires is essential. It's always best to install new tires in pairs or sets (per axle). The addition of only one new tire to the rotation cycle can create instability and thus result in vehicle handling issues. If you need new tires, it's best to purchase two new tires on the rear of the vehicle where worn tires should be moved to the front. If you'd like to store your tires for the next season, it's best to place them in a dark area away from direct sunlight and with low humidity. Keep solvents, grease, oil, or ozone-producing electrical equipment away from the tires since this can deteriorate the rubber.
  • Always pay attention to abnormal tire wear or damage. If you notice punctures, embedded objects, bulges, or cracks, have the tire serviced right away.

When you take these steps, your tires will have a longer life and last you for many years. The Rubber Manufacturer's Association (RMA) recommends that you spend at least five minutes each month checking your tires.

Of course, other mechanical issues can contribute to uneven tire wear, so you'll need to have regular vehicle maintenance to maximize your tire's life and your vehicle's performance.

You'll save gas, travel safely, and have a better chance at stopping in time when you slam on the brakes when you take proper care of your tires. This will positively impact the environment in the long run. Contact us if you'd like to know more about tire care.
